Expanded metal opening structure diagram
SWD
Short Way of the Diamond. It is the length of the short axis way of the diamond, measured from the center of the joint to the center of the joint.
LWD
Long Way of the Diamond. It is the length of the long axis way of the diamond, measured from the center of the joint to the center of the joint.
SWO
Short Way of the Opening. The distance measured from the inside of the bond across to the inside of the bond SWD.
LWO
Long Way of Opening. The distance measured from the inside of the bond across to the inside of the bond LWD.
Expanded metal strand and bond structure diagram
Bond
Intersection of two strands.
Strand Width
Amount of metal fed under dies to produce one strand.
Strand Thickness
Thickness of the base metal.
Expanded metal panel diagram
SWM
Short Way Measurement. Distance measured in the direction of expanded metal SWD.
LWM
Long Way Measurement. Distance measured in the direction of expanded metal LWD.
Manufacturing Terms
Expanded metal fat rolling diagram
Flat Rolling
The raised expanded metal is fed into the cold rolling machine for flat rolling. The strand thickness after flattening is the same as the plate thickness.
Expanded metal leveling diagram
Leveling
The newly produced expanded metal sheet has a certain curvature with the horizontal surface and needs to feed into the leveling machine to level it. Except for expanded metal gratings, all expanded metal sheets are leveled after expansion.
2 expanded metal edge shearing methods
Edge Configuration
Condition of the edge of an expanded metal sheet. Usually refers to "open" (random) or "closed" (bond) diamond edges produced from shearing. Generally, expanded metal sheet is provided with open edge, if you need a closed edge, state it clearly on the order.
Expanded Metal Grating Load Capacity Term
Expanded metal grating uniform load and concentrated load diagram
Uniform Load (U)
A load uniformly distributed over the clear span of the expanded metal grating. In this case, all parts of the expanded metal grating are subject to the same load.
Concentrated Load (C)
A load distributed over a relatively small area, such as a pedestrian load.
Deflection (D)
The deviation in inches from the original plane when the expanded metal grating is placed under load.
